Istanbul · Shore fishing
Fishing the way Istanbul does it — on the quay beside a historic mosque, under the Bosphorus Bridge.
The experience
Most visitors watch Istanbul from a ferry deck. This is the other version — standing on the quay where the city actually fishes, beside a mosque that has watched the same water for centuries, with the Bosphorus Bridge humming above you.
I'll hand you a rod, teach you the two knots that matter, and show you how to read the current so you can pick your own spot anywhere in the world afterwards. Then we do the part nobody puts in a brochure: we wait. We drink tea. We talk. And every so often, something pulls.
Complete beginners are the norm here, not the exception. Kids often out-fish their parents. If you already fish and want the harder mark, tell me before you book and I'll bring heavier gear.
The plan
We meet at the location. I hand out rods, we go over the plan and the safety basics, and you get your first look at the spot.
Two knots, one cast. I'll show you how to rig the line and bait the hook, and you'll be casting before we finish.
The main event. Lines in the water with the Bosphorus Bridge above us. I stay next to you, reading your line and telling you when to wait and when to strike.
Tea and homemade sandwiches by the water, and the story of how this stretch of current works — the seasons, the fish, and what the old fishermen here still argue about.
The light changes and so do the fish. We fish the last stretch with everything you've learned.
I'll show you how to clean a fish properly, and what you caught is yours to take.
Total: 3 hours. Start times at sunrise and late afternoon — the two windows when the fish are moving and the light is worth photographing.
Practical
The spot
Right on the waterfront, beside the old mosque, with the bridge overhead. Easy to reach on foot or by ferry, and flat ground the whole way — no scrambling over rocks.

In motion
Filmed on an ordinary evening at the spot — no crew, no staging.

Your host
Business school in Istanbul and in London, a few years in consulting and startups, and somewhere in there the realisation that I'd rather host people than write strategy decks. I run DAS Experiences — small groups, real places, no script.
Good to know
It's the most common case. Everything is taught from zero, and you'll be casting inside the first half hour. There is nothing to prepare beforehand.
Yes, and they often catch more than the adults. Children must be with an adult, and I'll adjust the gear and the pace for them.
It happens — that's fishing, and I won't pretend otherwise. What you're guaranteed is three hours in one of the best spots in the city, a skill you keep, and the tea. Most groups do catch something.
We move it to another day that suits you. I'd rather not stand you on a wet quay in a southerly.
More than 24 hours before the session, you get the full amount back. Between 24 and 12 hours before, half. Inside 12 hours the slot stays booked — by then I've turned other people away for it and bought the bait.
Not on this page — there's nothing to pay to send a request. Once I've confirmed your date I send you a payment link, and your spot is held from the moment it's paid. Card payment directly on this site is coming shortly.
No. We fish from the shore, on flat ground, the whole time. No boarding, no sea legs required.
Reserve
Sunrise and late-afternoon sessions. Small groups only, because I can't coach more than six lines at once.
